Former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath has mocked BJP leader Imarti Devi, referring to her as an ‘item’. The derogatory term used by the senior leader has become the subject of feminist outrage and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint against Nath with the Election Commission for comments made in bad taste against state Cabinet Minister Imarti Devi.
“Wo kya hai… main uska naam kyun lun… aapko mujhe starak karna chahiye tha kya item hai… (Who is she… what’s her name? You all should have warned me… what an item!),” Kamal Nath says as the crowd calls out Imarti Devi’s name.
Reacting to the distasteful statement, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj S Chouhan said, "I'll observe 'silent protest' tomorrow for two hours from 10 am to 12 noon, against former Madhya Pradesh CM and Congress leader Kamal Nath's remarks wherein he referred to BJP leader Imarti Devi as "item". He should be ashamed of his statement."
