Centre gives another invitation to farmers for talks on Oct 14
PROTESTING FARMER unions have got another invitation for talks from the Ministry of Agriculture. A letter has been sent by Sanjay Agarwal, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare. Underlining that farmers in Punjab have been protesting for the past few days due to farm-related subjects, the letter says, "Indian government is always about agriculture. This is the reason that the Centre Government is keen to talk to you." The letter adds, “Please attend the meeting on October 14, 2020 at 11.30 am in room number 142, Krishi Mantralaya, New Delhi for doing a discussion on these subjects." The invitation came via email to the heads of 29 farmer unions. A total of 31 farmer unions had come on a common platform to protest against the farm laws.
Jagmohan Singh Patiala, general secretary of BKU (Dakaunda), said, "We had not sent the name of BKU (Lakhowal) to the officials and one union's name was written twice erroneously. Hence, now we are 29 farmer unions fighting against farm laws on a common platform. BKU (Lakhowal) had moved the Supreme Court on its own without consulting us. Hence we have suspended that union from our list for the time being. We have told the union head that when a stamped letter of SC is produced which says that the petition has been taken back, he can be part of this common platform.
