Engineering student from Noida arrested with drugs worth Rs 15 lakh
A20-year-old student of the seventh semester of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) was arrested by Udupi Police on Sunday for being in possession of 488 MDMA drug tables. As per the police, the student, identified as Himanshu Joshi procured the drugs worth Rs 15 lakh through the dark web. He belongs to Uttar Pradesh's Noida city and was staying in a rented facility in Manipal.
According to a report in The News Minute, the student was caught red-handed when he was trying to sell the drugs near Sheemra bridge to fellow students. The police have seized the student;s mobile phone and two-wheeler.
According to The Hindu, the police is investigating as to how the student was residing in the town amid the coronavirus pandemic as there has been no official reopening of colleges. The police suspect the role of a bigger drug racket and how the MDMA drugs were procured on the dark web.
